Bankruptcy Law Subject Matter Outline

The North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization is pleased to announce that it has launched an alliance with The American Board of Certification (ABC) to allow qualifying lawyers to take one examination to become certified by both organizations.

The NC Board and the ABC - The NC Board certifies North Carolina Bankruptcy practitioners and the American Board of Certification (ABC) certifies specialists on a nation-wide basis. Each program has its own experience, education, peer review and examinations requirements. Previously, the NC Board wrote and administered its own examination. The purpose of this new agreement is to make it easier for North Carolina specialists to obtain "dual" specialization by requiring a passing score on only the ABC exam. Instead of taking two examinations, the applicant must only take the ABC exam. Under the agreement, grading and appeals of examination scores are handled by the ABC.
