This month we’re spotlighting the North Carolina Solicitor General Mathew Sawchak. Sawchak served on the initial Appellate Practice Specialty Committee and was certified in 2011. He was appointed solicitor general on January 18, 2017. We asked him five questions.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the State Bar’s specialization program. More than 1,000 North Carolina lawyers have earned the right to call themselves board certified specialists. Specialization is the cornerstone of the State Bar’s efforts to match the public’s need for specific legal services with lawyers skilled in 12 distinct practice areas.

Today’s political climate has put immigration law in the spotlight. Many clients of North Carolina immigration lawyers now live in fear, whether they are undocumented or not, that they will somehow be deported. Many are scared to travel outside the US in case of a travel ban.
